Privacy & Big Data Institute

The objectives of this special edition annual report were to convey what the Privacy & Big Data Institute has accomplished and to highlight the breakthroughs to an external audience. The challenge lay in making the subject matter exciting and fresh to new audiences while working with limited assets and shooting locations. This year's report was pivotal in explaining a shift in leadership and the transition of research funding to new projects. This lead to an interesting take on a timeline model that used subject and topic as the common thread connecting multiple projects, showing progressing field expertise over time.

This project also included an evolution of the Institute's visual identity, including both photography style and graphic devices. The annual report was inspired by tech publications and magazines. HOW Magazine named this piece a recipient of it's annual in-house design award.

Graduate studies

The Yeates School of Graduate Studies at Ryerson University puts out an annual retrospective that celebrates the achievements of faculty, researchers, students and alumnus of all graduate programs.  Highlighting the passion for positive change and impact shared across our graduate community, this publication's design leverages a continuous line throughout to literally find the common thread that connects the real people who are transforming society and creative expression. This report received a bronze at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) District II awards.

Centre for Urban Energy

A carbon-free energy sector is difficult to imagine. It’s also a challenge for any of us to grasp the magnitude of shift required to get there. Ryerson's Centre for Urban Energy delivers tangible solutions to real-world problems, driving impact locally and internationally through world-class collaborations and partnerships. The 2017 annual report conveyed this impact through a bold design that brought research projects to life for government and industry executive audiences. The primary challenge for this piece was making the subject matter both exciting to engage with and easy to understand for non-technical audiences.
